*Possible Trigger: Sexual Assault*
My mother
told me
to never walk alone
at night.
I never
listened to her
until I got a good fright.
He grabbed my hair
from behind
and pulled me down
with force.
He straddled me
and covered my mouth
with no remorse.
With a knife in his hands
his words were
“I won’t hurt ya, if you play nice”.
With my life in my hands
my thoughts were
should I roll the dice?
I closed my eyes
and stayed still
while he groped my breast.
I could feel my heart beating
and the anxiety
adding to the stress.
He tried unbuttoning my pants
but he couldn’t
and I could feel his discontent.
Stay calm, stay collected
waiting for when
seemed like torment.
There!
His body shifted
so I slid back
and kicked his face.
I got up,
dug into my purse
and sprayed his eyes
with mace.
Turned around
and ran as fast I could
screaming.
What a nightmare,
I wish
that I’d been dreaming.
