THE BEAUTY TRAP

I'VE HEARD
all the glib and
serious remarks
about beauty as related
to women:
"Beauty is only skin deep."
"Beauty is in the eyes
of the beholder."
"Beauty may be in the  eyes
but ugly is bone deep."
YEARS
ago I dated a woman
who won a national
beauty queen contest.
My chest was swollen
and I was the envy of others
BUT
in time I discovered she was
really "ugly" because of what
was in her heart manifested
in her racial remarks, putdowns
of the disadvantaged, and a
descendant of Narcissus.
YES,
I appreciate external beauty
but I always wait to discover
the real beauty, so as not
to fall into the beauty trap.
Thankfully there are so many
women who are beautiful inside
and out. I am blessed to share
with the at the Kissing Place/
