A Cicada's Song
Cicada summer nights, sing me your tune
Backyard tents with friends in the mid of June
Christmas lights wrapped around the walnut trees
Amidst Missouri heat, sweat without breeze
Why did we all need to grow up so soon?
Roasting marshmallows with Mom 'till they bloom
Close laughter together, touching the moon
When hours felt like hours, nothing more to seize
Cicada summer nights
Fire's embers, dancing canvas shadows loom
Fading to dreams beside Dad's guitar tune
Looking back, good times can be such a tease
Early days come and go with too much ease
But those, in my mind I'll always leave room,
Cicada summer nights
Backyard tents with friends in the mid of June
Christmas lights wrapped around the walnut trees
Amidst Missouri heat, sweat without breeze
Why did we all need to grow up so soon?
Roasting marshmallows with Mom 'till they bloom
Close laughter together, touching the moon
When hours felt like hours, nothing more to seize
Cicada summer nights
Fire's embers, dancing canvas shadows loom
Fading to dreams beside Dad's guitar tune
Looking back, good times can be such a tease
Early days come and go with too much ease
But those, in my mind I'll always leave room,
Cicada summer nights
