It Was Only An Eye Exam
I know what happened that day
I remember the events so clearly
Twenty three year old memories do not decay
When they scar you so severely
I went in for a routine eye exam
The optometrist seemed like a nice old man
But sacrificially I was his lamb
As he unleashed his master plan
First he used the ophthalmoscope
2 look deeply in my eyes
But what happened next I have to cope
For the remainder of my life
He then removed the equipment
And approached as close as he could get
Determined by his professional commitment
I did not see the upcoming threat
Breathing heavily in my ear
He now says follow the light
His knee in my crotch too near
I'm paralyzed but remain polite
Is this really happening
Or is it all just in my head
Maybe I'm just Imagining
And nothing should be said
He drops some droplets in my eyes
As he gets closer with all his might
The haunting echoes of what he says
"Blink out the stars and kiss them good night"
I left the office in a panic
And left with my waiting wife
I must have seemed so manic
But she assumed it's just my life
I eventually told her years later
And only a few people even know
He will be judged by his creator
So I should just let it go
But since I never reported the incident
I feel guilt and burdened to this day
How many others did he treat indecent
And were innocent victims or his prey
Those words still haunt me to this day
But I won't let them affect who I am
With regret I never made him pay
After all it was only an eye exam
