Grocery Shopping
I’m hosting a new life within me and so it surprises me when men look approvingly at my swollen shape. This happened on Saturday while I was at the grocery store.
As I strolled down the aisle of the grocery store, I noticed a man eyeing me intently. His gaze lingered a little longer than usual, and I could feel his admiration from across the produce section.
I felt him coming closer and he said, "Excuse me, miss. I hope you don't mind me saying, but you look absolutely radiant."
I smiled politely, feeling a mix of discomfort at stately tone and appreciation at his compliment.
"Thank you," I replied, trying to keep my tone casual.
He continued, “It's like you're carrying a little piece of sunshine right there."
I couldn't help but blush at his words, feeling a surge of maternal pride swell within me. "Well, I suppose that's what happens when you're expecting," I felt embarrassed at the involuntary smile spreading across my face.
He nodded eagerly. "You're going to make one lucky child," he said earnestly. "That baby is going to be surrounded by so much love and beauty, starting right from the moment she’s born."
His words touched something deep within me, a reassurance I hadn't realized I needed. "I am having a girl. Thank you," I said softly, feeling a swell of gratitude for this stranger's kindness. "That means a lot to me."
He simply nodded, his smile warm and genuine. "Take care of yourself and that little one," he said before excusing himself, leaving me with a newfound sense of confidence and gratitude for the miracle growing inside me.
