List #9: Travel Destinations
1. Dubai. I love wealth and the intensity of extremes. I want to ride the world's fastest roller coaster, go snow skiing inside on a 100 degree day, watch Dubai's fountains put the Bellagio's to shame, and, I don't know, maybe ride a camel. Nah. I'll pass on that.
2. Tromso, Norway. Northern most college town in the world. Art. Culture. Polar bears in the streets (not too close, please). Northern lights. Magical, stunning cold.
3. Miami, FL. My homeland. I haven't been to Miami in 30 years. I've been to Boca Raton, Orlando, Jacksonville and Ft. Lauderdale, but for some reason I never get to Miami. It would feel magical to be back. It's like another planet to me now.
4. A cruise. Almost anywhere, but preferably a minimum of screaming kids on water slides, and falling down drunk people.
5. Halmstad, Sweden. I haven't been back since the three months I spent there in 2005. I want to see my ex-boyfriend Peter again (we've stayed friends), and see more of Sweden.
6. Japan. I've never been to Asia. Japan is calling me the loudest.
9. Goa, India. From what I understand, it's a beach town with a leftover hippie vibe. Sounds awesome.
10. Kathmandu, Nepal. The altitude, the views, the culture. So much about it appeals.
11. Las Vegas. This one I can actually do now. It's less than a five hour drive. I'm thinking of going in late May, when school lets out. I've been on the High Roller during the day. Now I want to see the views at night. I am nothing short of obsessed with The Sphere. I want a room that overlooks it. The last time I was in Las Vegas, I walked 33,000 steps in one day. I want to beat that record. I have no interest in heavy drinking or gambling. For me, Vegas is ADHD paradise. I love all the stimuli.
12. Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. Don't judge. Don't ask for a rational explanation either.
13. The Daniel Boone Inn, Boone, NC. My grandparents had a vacation home in Western North Carolina. We used to go to a restaurant called The Daniel Boone Inn, where they offload endless platters of the best Southern food ever onto your table. I've wanted to go back for decades.
14. An Amtrak Viewliner train trip (or a better train line). Any train designed for taking in the scenery. Across Canada would be cool.
15. Psychedelics. Smoked plenty of pot and hash back in the day, but never did acid or shrooms, despite being deeply fascinated by them. I want a spiritual revelation.
16. Cat Island. Not sure exactly where it is.
17. New York, to see the areas where my parents grew up (New Rochelle, Harrison, and Lawrenece, Long Island). And if there are still vendors that sell hot pretzels, those.
This list is by no means comprehensive. I can definitely think of more.
