Surreal

While dreaming last night
I entered the surreal
though clean for some time
I was trying to get to the methadone clinic.

Driving through twisted streets losing my way
going insane each path to this place blocked
along the way I meet a preacher man
who says you look haunted lovely lady.

Abandon the quest you are on
and quit smoking while your at it
i'm sweating profusely in my bed
seeking out my drug long cast aside.

Unable to shake this nightmare
I toss and turn
I finally reach the destination
my body craves only to be told no dose
you aren't wearing any shoes.

I later awaken still craving this soul stealing drug
wondering why I didn't have any shoes on
I never leave the house bare foot
leaving me wondering is my soul ill prepared
for the journey i'm embarking on.

Or is it just a surreal nightmare
demons chasing me into the night
trying to quit drinking
my body fighting it
craving, aching.

Walking down a field of glass
full of mines about to blow up in my face
having learned a lesson from this
on this journey I better not be bare foot
as I lace up my combat boots.
