Monkey See, Monkey Do

Me, and my whole family
Had caught a virus
Many of us died
But those that survived
Were changed
Including myself
We found, that we were able
To communicate with one another
Like never before
And formed a language of sorts
We began making tools
And building makeshift shelters
Prefering these
To the trees
And none of the other  families
Of our ilk
Had evolved like us
So we assumed
That we were the only ones that had changed
As i aged
I witnessed the dramatic changes
As the other families
Carried on in the 'old' ways
Whereas my offspring
Had left the forests of their ancestors
Building new homes
And becoming farmers
I knew it was the virus
That had brought about this change
Completing distancing ourselves
From our ancestors
We had evolved
And added living proof
That Darwinian ideas
Were especially relevant
As to what we had become
But curiously
We all still possessed
An penchant for bananas!
