IT IS A LIE !

I can't remember
how old I was when
I first heard these words:
"Sticks and stones
may break my bones
but words will never hurt."
The intention of this
saying was to encourage
recipients of names
and bad words spoken
against them to ignore
and not retaliate...to forget.
On my life's journey I
have learned this saying
is not true; it is a lie.
I have experienced broken
bones, wounds, beatings,
and other physical abuses
in and to my body
AND
I have gotten over them.
BUT
I have been attacked by words
and some, after years, still hurt
as they linger in my subconscious.
They are "poison darts" that
seek to wound me again.
In my opinion the
 Sage who first said,
"If you can't say something nice
don't say anything at all," was right.
