A Caged Dove
I was nothing before I became a caged dove
I am nothing still as you unleash me into this unknown flock
twenty years of detained innocence
I face twenty more of liberated guilt
where I once had a roof to keep the weather out
I now have a barrel of fire under the bridge
every night I laid my head on a bed of concrete
today I lay on soiled frigid broken cement
thrown out leftovers from a dumpsters mouth
substitutes the three hot meals I was served in my cell
friends incarcerated were more brother’s than blood
replaced the family that have now turned their backs on me
years of yearning to be free
are exchanged by ways I yearn to go back

Freedom is still freedom- regardless of the form it takes.
Yearning to go back is madness...
Lovely poem, nice theme.
I dislike the character in it though...

I agree. I would gladly take a barrel of fire over confinement. But some, who have had an easy routine for most of there lives, might feel lost in the real world. I don't think it's right, but I do think it happens.

It's hard to respect for others what we ourselves would never choose, and so this then is the beauty of adopting, for a moment, the mind of another, so well done.

Thank you so much RT. you are correct. If we don't understand how someone else feels, it's hard tore left them for it.

You do have a nice way with your pen and the words you spout from it.
