Steaming
I'm angry
angry because
one day we all have to die
watching our bodies crumble
and our minds slide to mush
the human destiny of decay and dust
I'm angry
angry because
I'm spitting blood
and I can't fix an appointment
with my dentist
I'm angry at the birds
singing in the pre-dawn light
waking me early
to exacerbate my throbbing jaw
Angry at the sodden lawn
by my bedroom window
that's too wet to mow
Angry at the slugs
feasting on this year's
puny daffodil blooms
Angry at the squirrels
who dug up the bulbs
and left them half eaten--
in a spiteful salute to Spring
Angry
about the parcel that didn't arrive
the letter that did
with excess postage to pay
the overcharge on my phone bill
the hours on hold
the building work next door
that's dragged on for over a year
Angry at the dumb kid in denial
leaving comment on my poems
so obviously generated by AI
Angry that everything I may write
has all been writ before
better than I ever could
Angry at leaders
who can't run a country
let alone a world
angry at the wars
the greed
the waste
the sins of religion
angry for the homeless
on cold dark nights
angry at the price of a healthy life
And I'm angry because I'm certain
all this anger does me no good at all
while I watch the kettle
letting off steam
waiting like a fool
to boil itself dry
angry because
one day we all have to die
watching our bodies crumble
and our minds slide to mush
the human destiny of decay and dust
I'm angry
angry because
I'm spitting blood
and I can't fix an appointment
