Out of the Night

Finding my way from the depths of doubt
from self-consciousness to self-assurance
called names for kindness and a heart
for being gullible naïve tolerance

amidst the swirling storm of mockery
I looked inward and tried to transform
cut my shackles of chain completely
escaped dungeons of laughter and derision

Now I walk my every step with delight
head held high for I am worthy
no judgement should dim my light
for I have set my heart free

I have emerged from trials and tribulations
with resilience and perseverance
