Summer Evening

This evening he drove home from the grocery store
For years, the same route, same landmarks
He always avoided driving through the affluent area, just to the North
Not for any real reason
It was a little longer to drive home taking the southern route but he didn't mind
Not the most attractive neighborhood but the people were sincere
One gorgeous summer evening, the man decided to walk to the grocery store
This time he was going to utilize the northern route
A beautiful neighborhood with manicured lawns and larger then life houses, spaced apart comfortably for the residents to have enough elbow space
As he walked through the area, he was surprised no one was around on this beautiful night
Suddenly, screaming was heard from one of the homes that lined the street
The man sees a young disgruntled man running out the door
He was waiving a gun in his right hand
He had a crazed, sinister look in his eye. Almost as though he had a personal vendetta against him
As he approached closer and closer to the man walking towards the grocery store
The man shrieked in horror and raised his hands
BANG!
For no apparent reason the disgruntled man fatally shot the man walking to the grocery store
It was all within seconds
We later found out that neighbors within the area always avoided this one house where this unstable individual lived
He's been in and out of hospitals for years
This is a sad, tragic ending to someone that did not deserve to die.
Don't we all assume that the beautiful, luscious looking neighborhoods are safer then areas that are stereotyped to being poor, dirty and crime ridden?
