Remembrance: In the New Year

I find myself in thoughts at the dawn of this new year
remembering Soul, who from this world was taken
some three years ago gone but never forgotten
his memories a bittersweet reminder of kindred spirit shared
 
I miss your laughter, Soul and the tales you spin
of your family and your friends, your gentle jokes
I liked the way you talked to me out of heartaches
and shared dreams of the future and many secrets
 
I wish I can hear your voice again
sharing your secrets, your hopes and fears  
when you said you would fade away before me
I didn’t believe you but it came true
 
I face the silence energy displaced  
where your voice would speak once
in the quiet of the night, I wish  
I have the chance to hear you once more  
 
In my heart, you'll always stay, forever cherished
filling empty spaces where our friendship once shone
I found strength in the depths of my sorrow
I'll hold you close, every day in memories so dear
 
I will treasure every moment spent in life
until you're near, again.
