Here we go again
I remind myself to protect my heart
but you’re staring at me
and I can’t help but smile back.
I know those eyes and your southern ways
would desolate me so quickly
but for some unfamilar reason
I’m not scared at all.
You’re looking at me like I am
Lady Liberty, and I stand with pride.
I rule over this once hopeful city.
I feel admired. I feel eloquent.
I question if I have earned this type
of person, but then I remember all
the times I have done this for the
wrong person at the wrong time.
I recite my own words every night
I know how to be in new relationship.
I know how to let someone take care of me.
But what I’m really thinking is the truth
and that is, all I know is how
to take care
of them.
