The last feather

Flying, soaring so high
to escape the waves that flow nearby
in an attempt to defeat destiny
and to show the very best of me.
I lose my way and I find a new home
with each thermal draft I find a place to roam
knowing that I can never return
accepting my fate as the world turns.
I look below and see the problems so small
the ones that, to me, looked so tall
yes here on God's doorstep I am secure
knowing that my heights are sure
and yet a thought does remain
what do I leave behind after the rain?
I know my wings have caused so many drafts
and I've seen castaways on rafts
yet I know despite life's weather
I'll soar, down to my last feather.
