The Cliffs of Christmas
Waiting
where lovers leap
the pain of Christmas
haunting my soul
Your laughter
opens presents by the tree
each unwrapping
a tortured sigh of dreams
The crueller memories
saved for this day
especially reprised
to drown out thunder
on rocks below
I stand for an hour
where you once did
and embrace the wind
my heart bled dry
by a gull's cold stare
that dares me follow
your final step
where lovers leap
the pain of Christmas
haunting my soul
Your laughter
opens presents by the tree
each unwrapping
a tortured sigh of dreams
The crueller memories
saved for this day
especially reprised
to drown out thunder
on rocks below
I stand for an hour
where you once did
and embrace the wind
my heart bled dry
by a gull's cold stare
that dares me follow
your final step
