Weeds

She waited faithless for the end of life
last chocolate lonely
destiny ordained like melting ice
lost in sadness as the days swirled by
in a humdrum haze of chores
before her slow walk to the store
then the window's cruel boredom
aimlessly counting passers by
forgetting how to form a smile
until the last of the light wrought sleep
bringing respite for tears inside
all hope hushed from dreams
drowned in the dust of long ago
when the weeds began to grow
her poison of tomorrow
as certain as emptied time
