Smart People Do Stupid Things

When smart people do stupid things  
you have no idea what frustration that brings  
I mean you expect that out of someone who's dumb  
I look up to people with a high IQ  
I want to be like them, really I do  
but after they screw up it just makes you go numb  
 
I knew an engineer who was in his yard chasing a mole  
watched it go down one of it's holes  
decided to fill it up with gas and light it for a rodent roast  
looking down, guess he didn't figure on the backdraft  
anyone that saw it would have had to laugh  
his long gray beard and crazy red hair were toast  
 
Had a really sharp friend tell me he was leaving his wife  
said he found an intelligent girl to spend the rest of his life  
insisted that I meet her and directed me to a strip club  
she brought him drinks and nodded a lot  
while he rambled on, she took every penny he got  
“see, I told you she was smart”, I shook my head, but here's the rub..  
 
then he says, “I'm being dumb, ain't I.”  

...well, yeah  
 
Yep, even smart people do stupid things  
so don't be surprised if I tell a tale when I sing  
on something you did or are about to do  
because no matter who you are, your not immune  
I'll put it to words and sing it in tune  
and the rest of us will laugh till we cry,... at you
