Doggerel for Kissinger’s Tomb

“When Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize, satire died.” - Tom Lehrer

Rest in peace, Henry,
your work has been done,
the bodies are littered
by race and by ton.

The chicken-egg tree
has withered in flame,
its once protectees
have all done the same.

And in the east
a boy recalls
the yard where watermelons grew,
as on that yard a warhead falls.

But Benjamin says
the lad is a threat,
so on Ramadan
it’s orphaned he’ll get.

So rest in peace, Henry,
your work has been done.
The organising of bodies
is done by height, by weight, by ton.
