what did you do to keep sane...

 
2020 was a game changer
in so many ways
people lost jobs...homes...loved ones
addictions developed...grew...blew up
as did the world...every direction violence erupts...
times are no longer what they were once
overnight silence became deafening
so loud it overwhelmed
no more time face to face...
...everyone locked away
...life in solitary confinement...
as streets became emptied
and nature tentativlely unfurled...
hesitant to step out of safe havens
into human-occuppied places
...surreal became normal...
I grasped in my isolation for anything tangible
something to hold madness at bay
feeling my overwrought mind slowly fray
making me more susceptible to abuse
...users always sense wounded prey...
I sought sanctuary in creation
using my hands as mental salvation
lining shelves with my designs
taking comfort from their sparkle & shine
...hoping one day they'd reignite mine
others around me told me to sell them
but how does one make profit from sanity
...so I give them away...
...that's what returns joy to me
being released from quarantine changed me
...what brought you peace...
...during this time of such altered reality?
