Image for the poem journey

journey

life as a notion seeking its ocean

“He who does not know his way to the sea should take a river for
his guide.”—Blaise Pascal

gentle river,
cheerful giver
          of your life-sustaining ink,
let me with thee
take the journey
          to thy oceanic rink.

in your nature
lies my future,
          e'er persistent to your goal;
absolutely,
resolutely,
          pressing on, you joyful soul!

still defending,
never bending,
          though i spar with fearsome nights,
gentle river,
cheerful giver,
          write my wrongs, publish my rites!

when at morning
comes the dawning,
          as we hunger for her shores,
let the thankful
sea our tankful
          of life's ink spill on her floors.

no more roaming,
we are homing,
          where the ink writes, on the scroll,
tales of passion
and compassion,
          man and animal patrol;

tales of fountains
in the mountains;
          somersault and precipice;
vendors plying
fish they're frying—
          piscine anti-genesis!

let me flourish
in the relish
          of thy marine paradise;
let my quill stir
inks forever,
          of thy grand self-sacrifice.
