The Gray
I think about the things that we used to be
drifting away through the stars; just a memory
they're never far, but I'll never feel him close to me
I revisit the ruined corridors of my mind
and weep for the love lost between the cracks
I assisted in the poisoning of our innocence
crushed beneath the weight of my own sin
pulled to the sound of my children's laughter
I cry on the floor of an abandoned nursery
the face of blame has found a place upon me
waiting until the smoldering embers had died
when I am all that remains of our sacred union
my eyes have opened; I'm making a new start
no forgetting this lesson scarred on my heart
please don't hurt me anymore. I am so sorry.
