The Long and Cold

I had to talk a man down away from the edge
The precipice below is dark and dangerous
I had to take some harmful things away

Now the descent feels every bit as lonely

The long and cold night send shivers up the spine
All the unknowns play a daring game of chess
Calculations can’t be made until the day breaks
And even then, the risks seem impossible to take

But love sometimes makes the mind go numb and blind
How far can one tread the path without sound logic?
Will emotions cloud the ability to make clear decisions?
Will they take away decorum and better judgement?

Here, at the fork in the road stands a lonely broken heart
With devotion and will the resolve to find purpose lingers
Whether it’s faith or fate, he asks for sign from the universe
As darker days approach in the long and cold winter
