A la mode

An apple pie can be à la mode
So you eat it, digest it, flush it.

As for the world of la mode
It is a different story
An ever ending world of swirls and fabrics
Tones and colors

All the best for him and her
Always in excess and superior to all the rest
Yesterday's clothes, be gone
Worn one, or, god forbid, twice
Then it's the thrift store or the trash can

Or to that huge second-hand market
In Africa or some east european country
Where, for the poor this ''trash'' is welcome news
These clothes given a second or third life
Before they end up in shreds and mountains
Of trash made of fabrics.

Author's Note
Just saw a program on the subject.  Just insane the number of TONS of used clothes expedited just from Montréal to Africa every year.   Also last year saw a program on TV5 Monde:  journalists bought new clothes from various boutiques, inserted some sort of ''GPS'' in them, then put them in recycling bins and followed their route......all the way to some former East Block countries.
