The Sacred Pause
Do not blindly react
choose to wisely respond
when your heart is ready
—and not a second before
People are not their actions
but yet they somehow are
an outer rim of vibration
emitting wounds and scars
Awareness births compassion
by curbing acerbic tongues
betraying their own Spirit
by way of their hurtful words
Do not blindly react
choose to wisely respond
when your heart is ready
—and not a second before
People are not their actions
and yet they somehow live
trapped in an aching context
wishing they could forgive
Compassion births desire
to free them of their snare
outwardly exalt the Spirit
by inward way of prayer
Do not blindly react
choose to wisely respond
when your heart is ready
—and not a second before
People are not their pasts
and yet they somehow believe
in terms of wrong and history
they cannot seem to release
Desire births true actions
reflecting forgiveness and love
becoming an outer deflection
diverting wounds and scars
Thus do not blindly react
choose to wisely respond
when your heart is ready
—and not one second before
choose to wisely respond
when your heart is ready
—and not a second before
People are not their actions

Good advice - "Do not blindly react - wisely respond" to paraphrase all this.

Re. The Sacred Pause
I love the Buddhist chant feel to this, which is odd for me due to how much I was bothered by the selfish and group prayer characteristics of my Baptist upbringing, so it had me re-examine the definition and synonyms for prayer. And I've been thinking for awhile now that poetry in so many cases can be thought of as secular prayer, and further synonymic investigation led me to "orison", which in turn has connotations of recovery and collection, which may be motivated by group concerns and not just individual ones.
Of course your poem isn't selfish, it's just damn good advice, particularly where social media comment sections are improved by..."curbing acerbic tongues".
The second stanza brought to mind a book I read long ago titled...THE MUSIC OF THE SPHERES by Guy Murchie, wherein his thoughts dwelt on the vibratory nature of all matter and energy, and thereby all experience, which neatly took me to stanza six where you address the psychological motivator for prayerful (or poetic?) exaltation...whereby we hominids experience something like angelic flight...if only in our intellections:)
Your poem isn't just food for thought...but a veritable banquet!
P.S. the title makes a fabulous euphemism for the word..."orgasm".

Thanks MS. I posted it with the specific intent on garnering some critique. I don't think it's quite finished yet. I'm contemplating a few things. I wouldn't doubt "orison" has some type of root in "unision", as in one mind, one spirit individually vs individual mind and spirit.
I've read that book and still have it somewhere in a stash of book boxes. I absolutely adore how this took your mind to places that weren't selfish, but compassionate. Which of course can only be birthed by awareness, a recent conversation you and I had on a poem, I do believe.
Thank you also for the RL. Very Honored.

Great title and a delicately managed, almost villanelle-esque structure.

This is so beautiful. I wish I could have applied these words into my life at a younger age.

With age comes wisdom, but then there goes youth. Blessed are they who are born wise. Thank you, Lauryn.

no idea why, but this spill re entered my viewing meditation
and probably for Good Reason.
i am still struggling to understand an autistic (well loved) poet's decision to cut cords with me and have meditated for lots of days and wee hrs of many a morning.
i am not understanding why i am still in torment over this. i spilled my heart and usually after that -- i am OK. but not this time.
My meditations will probably take me back to Your spill / page over and over aaaaaaaaaand over, until i am able to let go of something WE both know i will never understand.
Just wanted You to know that Your spill continues to cause me to think.
(thank You)
