Tearing a Dying Heart

And you behave
as if this world were yours
to cradle in your palm
snapping rosebuds
with a snigger
oblivious to harm
The cups
of your own slow poison
wait trembling in your hand
How many species
lost and buried
or must you drink too
before you
understand
Flood and flame
flame and flood
Are you deaf
dumb and blind
while your legacy awaits
its final chalice
to seal Earth's fate
in a rush of greed laced blood
