red rose full bled

“Do not watch the petals fall from the rose with sadness[;]
know that, like life, things sometimes must fade…
before they can bloom again.”―Anonymous

good grief!
that’s what the red rose said;
so brief,
and then shall i be dead.
this life
is but a fleeting breath:
a knife
may hasten yet my death.

kiss me,
and i shall bloom for you;
miss me:
shall i be sad or blue,
till i
have reached that ocean shore,
to fly
away for evermore?

a rose
blooms for the whims of man;
impose
on me while yet you can!
my head
trembles upon your breast,
full bled,
awaiting love’s inquest.
