We should teach them
Noticed someone had placed yellow caution tape
in a wide berth around a tree in their yard.
Upon further inspection I spied a large hornets nest
hanging just about shoulder high.
The thoughtfulness of It crossed my mind,
warning of the danger in their midst
Though I'm sure the hornets didn't understand.

Along the same line, you should locate their stash and put up the tape, least one of us comes and steals it. ;p

I'm not sure what hornets are good for in Nature's scheme of things. The nasty buggers kill honey bees, and stings are really painful.
If you have a garden they're very beneficial in keeping insects (especially aphids), which feed on young plants, in check. Same with mosquitos and other various pests

You are correct on the honey bees, although Asian hornets or Asian Giant hornets are the honey bee killers you are referring to I believe. European hornets (which are actually wasps), are not typically harmful to a healthy honeybee colony, and their sting is about the same as a wasp or honeybee, they just like the sweetness the same as we animals do.
The most dangerous species on the planet are humans, as history has shown and continues to do so. .
