I WOULD WANT TO BE A KEEPER
I would want to be a "keeper",
not a cheater, love-her-leave-her;
not content to be a "shafter",
I would want an "ever after".
If she put her hand in my hand
she'd not be just a one-night stand:
I'd respect her in the morning,
greeting her not just with yawning....
We'd want to grow old together,
facing whatever the weather.
Of her love I would want to be
worthy, committed, not flighty,
In return she would be someone
to command love not for mere fun
I would want to give totally
in ways I could not but help be.

Author's Note
A literal overnight write. Probably best explains why I am single....The seeds of this write were sown reading a woman FB contact's meme about being single, which ended in the words "..there's no such thing as she can't get a man. A man is the easiest thing to get." To which (with sympathy for the friend, who has suffered bad relationships): !It seems men may be easy for a woman to get - but some are too easy to lose to another woman". This led to some reflection on my own singleness and ideals of loyalty.

I agree with you...even after my cowboy saga and basically giving up hope of finding "real love".... your so right. Its so easy to lose someone to another,... esp if that someone doesn't want to be kept. I don't want to be a one night stand or booty call anymore either. But im older now. I loved this!!

In the end, love will always be the most satisfying result, happy enough in the company of one person you won't ever want to stray from. It may take years to realise but without love, roots never get laid. (Unfortunate pun) Enjoyed your thinking in this fascinating & somewhat revealing write, Solomon. 😊
