Author's Note
I chose rumspringa to represent taking a break from stringent restriction to, in the case of the Amish, decide whether one, usually an adolescent, wants to be baptized and commit to the community or leave. My blues rumspringa is a break from my passionate compulsion to write poetry choosing instead to wallow a bit in depression

Sometimes it's a much needed catharsis to purge the darkness... I think your senryś did a great job at just that. Letting those 17 syllables speak your truth is powerful and brave, dear BB.
Good work, my lovely friend

Dear GW,
I totally support a good wallow in some righteous depression! Does a fellow good. I enjoyed the lyrical almost cylindrical format to this poem. Kind of rolls off the tongue like a musical riff.

If you don't occasionally wallow in something, how can you know it well enough to write about it? Experience preceeds good writing -- a kind of 'method-acting' for poets :))

I truly appreciate his comment, Josh. If we are not, at times, completely immersed in despair, happiness, grief, what have you. we can't really undertand or empathize with that given emotion. Thank you for helping me to be grateful for my plethora of predicaments.

It's always amazing to me (and sort of encouraging in a possibly perverse kind of way) how many 'high achievers' in all fields of creative endeavour, live with despair and despondency and depression. I take a sort of comfort in that. I find that the western culture of "always happy-clappy" as the supposed norm is unhelpful (to say the least) when it comes to working our through more difficult phases in life.
