CadenceSong
a young soldier consoles his beloved
“Harmony is the inner cadence of contentment we feel when the
melody of life is in tune.”—Sarah Ban Breathnach
in a little while,
i'll be home with you again;
though the war is vile,
soon, i leave behind the pain.
how i miss your smile—
soft cheek-music to my heart!
in a little while,
peace shall villainy outsmart.
i will wake with you
when tight nights have dreamt their dreams;
morning rendezvous
will dissolve fall-soldiers' screams.
no more tears adieu
from the lovelight i adore!
i will wake with you
where foul trenches rule no more.
sotto voce songs
that you sang before the war
shall right all my wrongs,
heal each elemental scar.
how my spirit longs
for your velvet-throated voice!
sotto voce songs
every cadence shall rejoice.
