Wintergreen

I remember at fifteen
Blinking lights
Color of wintergreen
Above a summer night
Underneath a June twilight

On a ride steering
The Ferris Wheel
Slow loud spins
Feeling alive
Elevated to the top
Loving life

Way up high In the sky
Laughing you and I

Eighties painted eyes
Red feathers in my hair
Glancing at you
Trying not to stare

Wondering if
You'll make a move
Or will it be me
Your hand on my knee

We're spinning around
Inventing Wintergreen rings
Breeze rushes our face
Faint scent of funnel cake

My electric pulse energized
By an upright merry go round
Almost time to get off
We're lowering down

Both feet exiting
The Ferris wheel cart
Teenage lips grounded
Finally finding our mark

Kissing you and I
Illuminated in Wintergreen

Author's Note
Every summer the fair comes to town.
I remember when I was in my teens popping balloons with darts and winning
feather clip-ons for my hair!
I could see the Ferris wheel from miles away!
