Lullaby

Two kids who grew up poorly
Been friends for many years
His home was always lonely
Her days were filled with tears

The only comfort given
Was walking home from school
He’d leave her at the front steps
“No friends in” was the rule

As both missed much of classes
To help matters in their home
Excuses brought up lying
Problems best if left alone

His mother always working
Three kids, a single mom
Never made the ends meet
Just started a third job

His days were dedicated
To the children left behind
Siblings looked for comfort
A man now been defined

He often looked up to her
To be the shoulder for his sorrow
In silence they would both grieve
Time would bring them to tomorrow

She welcomed all the nothing
That they spoke, causing no lies
Saddened by the emptiness
He found inside her eyes

This child was now a woman
Her father found a way
Her mother left too early
And her father made her pay

He’d often crawl in slowly
Up the bed between her thighs
This nightmare seemed to never end
She stayed in bed to cry

As high school years came flowing
The feelings hard to hide
Ignoring all the gossip
Disclaiming all the lies

His family needed less of him
And she was numb now of the pain
I don’t know how he missed the fact
This girl had gone insane

She’d cut herself in places
That were hid from public eye
Hoping she’d feel so much pain
She’d break down and just die

How could she escape him?
How far could she go?
Didn’t know her way around
Always locked up in her hole

Mentally exhausted
And hoping for an end
She took it in her own hands
To see if he would bend

She started fighting back
At first, he liked the challenge
But soon she seemed demented
As her body, he still ravaged

She ended up with busted lips
And tasted of the blood
Reminding her, why she must leave
Could she ever find true love?

He was the only one around her
Who noticed all the change
She wanted to be killed by him
A little girl deranged

She opened up more to the friend
It was hard to hide the scars
They’d sneak off in the nighttime
Making wishes to the stars

She had a star she’d chosen
And she named it “Lullaby”
And to this star, she’d reach up
Make a wish and start to cry

Tonight her star was missing
He thought he’d point it out
She said, “It’s an imposter.”
Searched the heavens to find out

Nowhere did it appear here
As they stayed our far too late
Before going their separate ways
She wanted life to wait

Stopped under the moonlight
And softly brushed his lips
Her forehead followed slowly
A chance they couldn’t miss

Lust, it was subsiding
As she whimpered in his arms
He held her and he promised
He would keep her far from harm

Little did they know
That back at home her daddy waited
His little girl, was just for him
His property invaded

She crawled into the bedroom
Through the window like before
In her room appeared her dad
Pointed fingers at the whore

She stood up firm and quiet
After each blow sent her way
Shouldn’t last much longer
When he was done, she’d run away

He noticed such a confidence
Almost like she’d had this planned
Pissed by such defiance
Grabbed his daughter by the hand

Held her as he choked her
Finally, she started to cry
She defended herself as best she could
Escape was worth the try

The bat he used to punish her
He left under the bed
She found it and she swung it
Directly aiming for his head

He stopped her on her knees
Then it just took a single blow
He heard her skull just crackle
She had triumphed in her show

Turned himself in the next morning
Made the papers the next day
That friend she left was walking by
He knew it right away

Street was blocked off fiercely
She was nowhere to be seen
Her dad was still behind the car
And he dared to stare at him

He told them all he knew
About the happenings at night
He told them lately she fought back
Though already recognized

The next night it was clear to him
She was fine in her new place
Because Lullaby had made it back
And brighter with her face

He had to fight the tears
As he slowly figured out
Lullaby was with her now
He granted her way out
