Cancer Tipped the Scales
Maybe time will smooth you over
wear down all of the jagged little pieces
of the diamond you became
that tears my heart open
every time I breathe
I guess your crown must have rusted
adding to the metal in my blood
you must have drowned in the current of my love
I guess that you were hung up
my mistake
I should have know it
from the moment
I saw your face
I should've learned the first time
you're a lie
and the moments where we went wrong weren't all mine
most of the time it was you on your own
I was nowhere in sight
I was waiting for you at home
I could feel it in my bones
it wasn't right
you were a long shot
moving on
shouldn't feel so wrong
especially when I know it's right
Do you look out your window at the night?
Does it remind you of me?
Can you still hear the sound of my heartbeat?
It doesn't really matter anymore
I'm not sure who was the last to walk out the door
but at least I looked back for you
We're on the phone
simple conversation feeling twisted
and I know that you feel it too
You've got your girlfriend
we're having lunch altogether
no, the world is not perfect...
maybe time will smooth you over
wear down all the jagged little pieces
of the diamond you became
that tears my heart open
every time I breathe
wear down all of the jagged little pieces
of the diamond you became
that tears my heart open
every time I breathe
I guess your crown must have rusted
