Unrequited Devotion

In the depths of his heart, he'd do all in his power,
For the one he adored, his love's guiding tower.
He offered his hand, proposed with great zeal,
Yet her heart belonged to another, a love she couldn't conceal.

He built her a home, a sanctuary to embrace,
But her affections lay elsewhere, a different love's embrace.
He provided and cared, giving all that he could,
Yet her heart remained distant, her love understood.

Years passed as they wed, their union endured,
Yet the flame of her heart for another still endured.
He tended to their children, a selfless embrace,
But her love's destination remained in a different space.

Through it all, he stood strong, a pillar of support,
Though her heart belonged elsewhere, he wouldn't distort.
For love is a complex journey, it takes many forms,
And sometimes, unrequited devotion weathered life's storms.
