Don't Do It

Time lapse, tyres screech
horns blaze about death, broken bones
is this to be the last stand?
Two people here
an event planned
“DON’T!”
“WAIT!”
“I’ll come up with something.”
Throwing myself in the road
stopping cars
hugging till help arrives
till there is support
I am alone
you are alone
and we stand on the edge of being and brutal injury
my mind flashing with images
a body tossed in the air
flesh and bone and metal
how do I care?
What do I do here but give you a hug and hope
be the wall that will not move, that will not collapse from the weight
but I am deadened, smothered, alone
and then there is support
I feel that
I am so thankful
the weight is lifted
we all played our role
a young person is safe
for now.
