40 days 40 nights -where's my promised land-
Bobby ain't
gonna cry for you, pal
never whined once
when I took him
from from his family
so don't let his tears
deter you

(Is this about a pet?! Because every bad pet owner deserves an asskick to the face.)
I like the smokey bit of implied violence. There is a toughness to this that simmers on low. I really dig it.

You're half right, Bobby is my dog. I picked him from the litter. never cried about it. I'd a friend stayed over for 'a few nights' turned out to be 6 weeks. ...was good to Bobby otherwise a hard 6 weeks
Thank you much for gracing my humbles with your presence and thoughts, Lady

I find the focused brevity has gravity, the voice is natural and has subtle depths of revelation.

It was fun marrying the 40 days and 40 nights reference to this poem. Like.. everybody thinks of Jesus coming out of the desert as all holy and divine.
Would he bollocks.
He’d be starving, sunburnt and probably bewildered as fuck. And I guess that’s the vibe I’m taking from this poem - somebody impacting your space. A bit of a “what the bloody hell happened there” moment.
You’ve probably got a bit more patience than me. I’d of just set the couch on fire.
Thanks for sharing this. Trademark brevity as usual.
