Harmonious Family Dynamic - Third Movement
Unassuming uncle English Horn
adds layers of rich baritonal notes
despite relative anonymity
when compared with other,
more distinguished,
members of the orchestral family tree
Clarinet is the cool brother
with a dichotomy of career paths
either playing with the orchestra clan
or riffing with a Jazz combo
and if passed over for first chair
at rehearsal they may not show
Saying “I don’t need this gig daddy o”
Oboe is always prepared
the first voice heard
keeping the family in tune
adding happy, encouraging notes
to the sonorous symphonic salad.
Bassoon is the exotic cousin
lanky with Meerschaum pipe
shaped mouthpiece
emitting deep, lush, and sultry strains
evoking romantic images
of Moorish palace gardens in Spain
