Modern Conveniences - Part Two
The magnetic sign
on the dishwasher reads,
“sparkly clean”
opening the door
I expect to see cups, knives,
forks, spoons, and dishes
lined up, standing at attention
like spit and polished soldiers
waiting to rest
at ease in their kitchen cabinet barracks
to my immense surprise
there’s been a security breach
the dishwasher is empty
one of my computer savvy posterity
hacked into the domestic database,
stole my single-user appliance entry code
and voluntarily did a chore
to tell you the truth
I admire their initiative
I think I’ll encourage them to do more
Wait a minute, what’s that sound?
a truly happy tune
It’s the the vacuum cleaner
running in the living room
I am filled with hope for the future
next I’ll train them on the software
that runs the mop and broom.
