Him and I
A conversation with a child
More wisdom and grief
Than his years would suggest
Wholehearted and meek
Entertaining the worst
Never feeling complete
Asking the questions
Only the saddest would seek
Innocence abandoned
Through his own will of mind
Realisation dawns
And moulds “this is mine”
Too young to know better
Old enough to know best
Frontal cortex plays tricks
Pre determined his wake
Not knowing enough
Being sure sealed his fate
I look back on this convo
With a smile and a grin
I’ve had my bulb moment
Lighting up my old sin
He didn’t know better
He didn’t know best
My innocence is now
I’ve passed my own test
More wisdom and grief
Than his years would suggest
Wholehearted and meek
Entertaining the worst
Never feeling complete
Asking the questions
Only the saddest would seek
Innocence abandoned
Through his own will of mind
Realisation dawns
And moulds “this is mine”
Too young to know better
Old enough to know best
Frontal cortex plays tricks
Pre determined his wake
Not knowing enough
Being sure sealed his fate
I look back on this convo
With a smile and a grin
I’ve had my bulb moment
Lighting up my old sin
He didn’t know better
He didn’t know best
My innocence is now
I’ve passed my own test
