Counting Our Nights

On that appointed night
eight years ago, my virgin vessel
sailed into open waters in search of love.
I think of life as 6,000 nights before and 3,000
after that first night.

When I imagine my nights forgotten and
drowning in an ocean of infinite nights,
I know this life is beautiful!

Author's Note
I wrote this short poem after reading Mother’s thoughts about my first night.
https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/poems/441382-on-this-appointed-night/
I think of life as before and after that first night of love making. There have been over 10,000 nights in mother’s life since that fateful afternoon with her high school classmate, Mason.

How many of our nights have been spent sharing love with someone special? How many of those nights hold regrets? Strange questions but these are mine.
