Angry Ides
Men are creatures of some ugly extremes
Plaza vacillating from slob to snob
In our communitarian dreams
About just what is an honorable job.
Just what is it that makes a man a man
Apart from hardened heart, and Cupid's dart,
And escapades by an aggressive plan
Sly commenced on a Powerpoint chart
To see foul play befoul another
As vainglory is made the covert's own;
The toxin wherein all trust will smother
And infuse malice into every bone?
Et Tu, Brute? That's your master scheme?
Like chopped up bits of pizza meat supreme?

True enough.
But he was an elitist, imo, writing for and to fellow elitists,
ordinary folk then as now don't get much of an airing.
This ' elitist ' word isn't meant to be insulting merely factual.
It seems, to me, one has to be really 'orrible to get listened to.
The news is full of these 'orrible people. Sadly.

Yeah..."If it bleeds it leads" has been the media rule for forever now.
He was an elitist, to be sure, like most writers in his day, but at least he was a fan of Shakespeare, who at least wrote for the folks in the pit as much as he did for the "Nobility" in the balconies.
And don't forget that he was tutored from a very early age, although I suppose we would call that privilege these days.

I assume he enjoyed the bard of Avon since he edited an entire edition. One of the first I think.

Looks like he was the second editor of Shakespeare's works, with Nicholas Rowe being the first in 1709. --Wikipedia.

Dear Mr. Black,
I salute you and your appreciation for the glories of nocturnality, and I wholeheartedly agree regarding your assessment of the whole lightness and darkness cliché. Having a modicum of experience with photography, I as well tend to think in terms of spectral sensitivity.
This has led me to understand that many things are best seen in continuum, particularly hominid behavior, if only we train ourselves to see the spectrums, and not merely in half blind absolutist terms, such as the ups and downs of heaven and hell, or the seemingly simple electrical switch like appearance of right and wrong. This is why reality favors the saboteur, eh?
But yes, either way, we must stay vigilant.
Many thanks for your read and wonderful comment!
With felicitous regard,
