Linear Hypocrisy

They are everywhere
lines
controlling our lives and our thoughts
walk the straight and narrow
don't slouch
stand up straight
we're living in a linear hell
lines have become a moral imperative
how I hate just greeting people
look them straight in the eye
chest out and straight upper back
lines even control where we go
As the crow flies
or make a bee line
parallel parking and traffic lanes
even love is not immune to this tyranny
when someone goes straight to your heart
but even worse
lines tell nature how to behave
from redwood trees
to neat little rows of seeds
the whole world is victimized
by lines
cast off this yoke of linear slavery
let crows fly where they want
let bees dance gathering pollen
and stick men [where do I even start]
and damn it all
redwood trees can follow their hearts
I support meandering walks
along gently curving seashores
watching gulls soar in aerial cartwheels
and I love the intertwining flowers
in my garden
but crabgrass can go straight to hell
