Trepid child
in a forest of dreams
hiding for awhile
nothing as it seems
Dark and grim
feeling the fear
sucking me in
keeping me near
Closing my eyes
holding breath
ghostly shapes in guise
panicking depth
Efforts to flee
self-defeating
unable to see
tragedy repeating
Prolonged route
in solitary
discomfort acute
movements wary
Trudging alone
in a wretched place
towards the unknow
wicked winds I brace

Dear M,
This write has captured every nightmare I’ve ever experienced. That feeling of trying to run and your legs can’t move, as though they’re in quick sand. Panic setting in. Anxiety I know all too well. You’ve softened the fear with such a lovely rhyming format, and the stanzas have such a great flow. Difficult subject, great write. H🌷
