themselves
like oiled machines
lie helplessly strewn
in the cave,
though gathered
and tied
to halt the divide
it helps
the quick tongue

Author's Note
Watching a woman self-tying a coconut rope around her tongue, I found myself a little speechless, although certainly not uncommunicative.
