I noticed
you were sleeping
that's why
I didn't turn off the radios
or the blender
not even the vacuum cleaner.
Because I heard that
you were sleeping
I went out the door
leaving the house
on fire
without turning off
the alarm clock.
I went out slamming doors
for having realized
that you were sleeping.

I love wondering about the deeper meanings of your metaphors here. The drowning sound that protects my sleep is the window air conditioner right above my headboard. I sleep so much better during the hot months because of it.

Sounds and the capability of feeling them are a guaranteed sleeping pattern. I wouldn't be able to sleep in total silence 🤫

This maybe me, but this poem felt really quite dark in its portrayal. And yet underneath that searing dark (I mean, you’re setting a house on fire with your love inside) there seems to be this beautiful metaphor of eternal love. I mean, who doesn’t want to die with their one and only close by.
