Rattlesnake Love
There's this darkness that bubbles from the deep
A shadow smoothly gliding just under the surface
There is this possessive nature I have
And it only shows itself when it comes to you
I would wrap myself around you tightly
We would sleep every night like rattle snakes
Hiding away somewhere warm in winter
My emotions for you are dark and vibrant
I would lose myself in loving you
Come undone to where we wouldn't know
Where you begin and where I end
A shadow smoothly gliding just under the surface
There is this possessive nature I have
And it only shows itself when it comes to you
I would wrap myself around you tightly
We would sleep every night like rattle snakes
Hiding away somewhere warm in winter
My emotions for you are dark and vibrant
I would lose myself in loving you
Come undone to where we wouldn't know
Where you begin and where I end

That puts such an intimate spin on the rattlesnake it's a great creative simile.

I grew up around rattlesnakes. They are so beautiful. I have this memory of watching a rattlesnake in the summer. It was fascinating. The color of the scales in the sunlight just left me in awe. I was a kid so I didn't fully grasp how dangerous they are, but no ones died from a rattlesnake bite in my state since the mid 90s. One of my favorite myths is that snakes travel in pairs and when harm is done to one the other will stop at nothing to seek revenge.

I didn't know any of that, have rarely been around snakes. My friend Gino had this boa he would take out of the tank and pass around, just to laugh at whomever was scared. I held it and held my composure, but I was uneasy. I found it's muscles like supple iron, it was a singular experience.

Spent my whole childhood out in nature. My brother and I became pretty skilled at catching snakes. There's a ton of different garter snakes! I remember one of my uncles giving all us kids a long lecture about how you have to know what your local snakes are because you have to be able to describe it if one bit you. I imagine the er has a flip book much like the ones used at police stations featuring potential offenders

Yeah, you've got something here, girl! It's definitely a love that's edgy & one that I would probably run a mile from if I had any sense! The annoying thing is, this poem's so well written, it kinda draws you in. Damn! ;-)

Definitely the er everywhere even in the most unlikely places probably has some contingency and identification tools for snake bite. That's so cool that you spent so much time out of doors, I was largely sat in front of a tv to keep me out of the way. Lol I've been camping in my adult life once about 25 years ago, I left on the first morning with half a dozen ticks in my back. 😩😅

That is insane. Were you sleeping directly on the ground??? How in the world do you get that many ticks?? My dude, that's crazy

We cleared some ground down to the dirt, set an abandoned couch on fire, hiked around, put up our tents, I felt the bites in the middle of the night and I was so uncomfortable I just caught a ride home first thing and my Mom pulled them out with tweezers as I recall.

Never thought I'd read or see love described in the reptilian way.
Wonderfully scripted Blue, bringing up those emotions to the surface, describing those feelings and imprinting them forever as a testament to this love.
Great work.

There's something cute in that rattlesnakes with cuddle together to stay warm. Some even share dens all year long.
