Gift From My Dad
Fly under the radar and cover your tracks,
something I didn’t really understand
when I wanted to flaunt like
Eminem, when he started a band.
That sounded like fitting in just like a cog,
no news means that I’m doing my job.
So instead I just opposed it,
I never wanted to go unnoticed.
I saw it in my friends, ‘fore I saw it in me.
People wanna talk, for example Henry:
Said he’s gunna be on the basketball team.
Turns out,
he got cut from the basketball team.
Pretty soon, I began to leave a wake myself,
Their eyes loom, deciding where I’ve gone for themselfs.
Half these people just foes,
outside input cloud my goals.
It entertains them,
before it gets to my end.
Cuz now I’m on their radar,
like they had a spy plane or
UAV,
Jarvis from Tony Stark,
while I try to make my way,
completely left in the dark.
I’m flyin high so they see me,
They might be tryna mess with me.
These kids is like parrots,
spill it right after they hear it.
Or a broken telephone,
spit n twistin every idiom.
About time, I learned that people naturally gossip.
Now it's time, how can I practically stop it?
Leave between the bells,
cover up the smell,
smother down the yells,
squeeze the need to tell.
Like a fool, it took me a while to pinpoint it.
After school, movie date, I had an appointment.
My lovely lady hopped in, said who the hell was sitting here?
My knees are crunched, my neck is bunched,
Who was in this chair? I understood her tarnished stare.
I would’ve never thought to think about it when I came back from lunch,
she always feared that golden haired short girl she thought my crush.
My own girlfriend, her
distrust pushed to the max.
That’s when I remembered,
my dad said, always cover up your tracks.
