Animals

I live in the suburbs
Row upon row of similar houses
Running on and on
With nothing standing out
But there's a little park filled with trees
Close by my little slice of suburbia
And every now and then we'll see some of the wildlife
That somehow manages to flourish
So far from where they should be
I've seen deer running down the road
And 3 foxes on my front yard
Probably hoping to find a neighbour's cat
And make it a meal
Even an ugly little opossum
That wasn't afraid of my clapping
When he climbed up on my porch
There are plenty more
And I wonder how they get along
Where there doesn't seem to be much
But somehow they do
It both amazes and makes me happy
This little park up the street
That blossoms with life
Makes me a happy man
And I smile when I see the squirrels
Though they'd better be wary of the hawk
That lives in the tall pine
She waits for her opportunity to strike
